Professor Hiroshi Oda (LL.D University of Tokyo) is a special adviser to Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu. He held the chair of Russian law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Tokyo before being appointed the Sir Ernest Satow Professor of Japanese Law at the University College London (UCL). He registered as an attorney at law in 1991 (Second Tokyo Bar Association). He is also qualified as a solicitor (England & Wales).
As a leading expert of Russian, Professor Oda has been involved in natural resources projects and other investment projects in Russia. and lately on matters related to economic sanctions against Russia. He has also been active in the area of dispute settlement involving cross-border litigation and arbitration. He was a member of the ICC International Court of Commercial Arbitration in Paris representing Japan, and is a member of the panel of arbitrators at ICSID.
His publications include Russian Commercial Law, second edition (Martinus Nijhoff, 2007), Russian law (Tokyo University Press, 2015), Russian Arbitration Law and Practice (Oxford University Press, 2020), and Japanese Law, fourth edition (Oxford University Press, 2021).
