Hitoshi Sumisawa began his illustrious career in public service after graduating from the Faculty of Economics at the University of Tokyo in 1988, followed by his entry into the Ministry of Finance in the same year. He served as Director-General of the Okazaki Tax Office, Secretary to the Minister of Finance, Director-General of the Main Accounting Bureau, Director-General and Deputy Director-General of the Main Taxation Bureau, etc., before being appointed Director-General of the Main Taxation Bureau in 2020; Commissioner of the National Tax Agency from 2023; and now Special Advisor to the law firm Nagashima, Ohno & Tsunematsu from 2024.
